Mikayla Phillips
Mikayla Ellison Phillips is a Texan-turned-Alaskan with a passion for fostering opportunities for adult dancers in Anchorage. Her dance training began at Hathaway Ballet Academy in Dallas, Texas. She went on to earn a B.S. in Human Development with a minor in Contemporary Dance from Brigham Young University. During her time at BYU, Mikayla performed and choreographed with dancEnsemble and performed extensively across the U.S. and Europe with the International Folk Dance Ensemble. After completing her degree, Mikayla danced with Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company II.
Since moving to Anchorage in 2018, Mikayla has taught classes at Alaska Dance Theatre and Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy. Mikayla’s choreography has been featured in Pulse Dance Company’s artist-in-residence program, 'Bloom,' and she completed a three-month artist residency with The Nave Spenard. Additionally, she has performed in multiple UAA Dance Ensemble productions. She co-founded Sunlight Collaboration, an adult contemporary dance company dedicated to collaborating with local artists across various art forms. She has directed, choreographed, and danced in multiple performances with Sunlight Collaboration over the past six years. When Mikayla isn’t dancing, you can find her exploring Alaska’s beautiful outdoors with her husband and two kids.
This is Mikayla’s first season with Momentum Dance Collective, and she is excited for this opportunity to keep connecting with the vibrant dance community in Anchorage.
