Anchorage Dance History | Connecting Generations

April 4, 2025 @ 6:30 - 9:00 at the Anchorage Museum

Celebrate the legacies of dance innovators who brought ballet and other western dance forms to Anchorage beginning in the 1950s-60s. Their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit gave rise to future generations of Anchorage dancers, and many of today’s Anchorage dance schools and companies can be directly traced to these artists.

Everyone is invited to this First Friday event to honor and learn about this chapter of Anchorage dance history and to share in the camaraderie and energy over appreciation for local dance. The evening includes remarks from honorees and their families, an historic slideshow narrated by colleagues and families of the 17 honorees, an original artwork representing Anchorage’s dance “family tree”, and interactive areas to share experiences and ideas for the future of dance in Anchorage. There will also be dance performances by Barbara’s School of Dance, Alaska Dance Theatre, Momentum Dance Collective, Pulse Dance Company, Flow Zone, and UAA – all companies with deep connections to the honorees.

Hosted by the Anchorage Museum with support by the ME Webber Foundation.
