2020/2021 Season

f(light) | A Dance Film Event

Premiering Friday, March 12th 2021 At 6:30PM

Motivated by the return of light at this time of year and need for human connection, Momentum created five short dance films. Playful or romantic, whimsical or intimate, each film is an exploration of movement inspired by the presence or absence of light.

These five films were all conceptualized and directed by members of Momentum Dance Collective and captured & edited for film by three talented videographers, Bryan Fidel, Irenerose Antonio, and Alex Troutman.  Influenced by the gradual increase in daylight that occurs this time of year and a need to express the missed and made connections the past year has provided, each film dives into a different world.  While we can’t yet set the stage to gather in person, we will provide an opportunity for our audience to create their own immersive experience that can be paired with this film night event. We hope you will join us as we embrace the creative challenge of presenting new work while keeping all who support and inspire us safe and healthy.

Fall | A dance film

Premiering December 14th, 2020, at 7pm

Fall is a short dance film created in collaboration with Kat Moore's solo project, The Forest That Never Sleeps, and Momentum Dance Collective. Created and choreographed by Greta Nelson and filmed by Irenerose Castillo, this film was originally set for a stage production in April of 2020, but the world had other plans. Reimagined for film, this piece explores waiting, loss, and falling into something else. Something like letting go.

A Pathway Performance | Sugar & Salt

Saturday, September 19th & 20th

Set in the living museum at the Alaska Botanical Garden in Anchorage, Alaska,  Momentum Dance Collective and The Forest That Never Sleeps come together for a performance that brings a love story of human experience to life. Kat Moore’s beautiful melodies and lyrics will transport you to the intersection of experiences universally familiar and uniquely personal. The dancers of Momentum Dance Collective move with a physicality that is powerful, relatable and honest, weaving individuality and nuance into the story of Moore’s melodies.  Originally designed for a stage performance in April 2020 and reimagined for our current climate, we hope to capture and share this moment in time with you.

SUGAR & SALT

A video from a company stuck in quarantine but always close at heart | Momentum Dance Collective and The Forest That Never Sleeps (Kat Moore).

After the cancelation of our April 2020 production of Sugar & Salt, we somehow felt even more connected to each other, to the concepts and artistry of the show we had been building, and to Moore’s music, particularly the title song.
